So
I kind of took a year off from blogging. It wasn’t planned that way, but that’s how it turned out. And now I’m back - older, possibly wiser and definitely more married than I was before. Basically, it’s a bit of a long story, but the short version is - welcome to ‘Making it up as I go along’ v2.0.
Did I miss much?
Testing, testing...
…does this still work?
You know that cheesy old phrase “you should never assume because it makes an ass out of you and me”?
Well, it’s wrong. Turns out when you assume, you only make an ass out of you. The other person has no reason to be considered an ass. Just you.

Erm, no.
I’m sure your dog is cute and lovely and you love her lots. But I am not becoming friends with her on Facebook. Sorry and that.
(well, OK, if you can prove that she’s actually set up her account and types all her own statuses and stuff herself, then I’ll consider it)
At the risk of sounding like some out-of-touch...
I was listening to Kerrang earlier, and they were inviting people to call in to pick which of three Pendulum tracks (one from each of their albums) they wanted to hear. They played a clip of all three to help their listeners decide.
I swear all three of them were actually the same track. There was no difference whatsoever.
I don’t know, it wasn’t like this in my day / you could...

Weekend in brief
- Excellent wedding.
- Bride looked beautiful.
- Groom scrubbed up alright too.
- My girlfriend was the most stunningly gorgeous bridesmaid in history (I may be slightly biased, but it’s still true, so there).
- Lovely church; beautiful reception venue (apart from the toilets, which were shocking).
- Wedding band were mostly very good, but they did murder a couple of songs.
- Not all...
Grrrrrrraaaaarrrrggghhhhh
So today’s mission was quite simple: sort through the vast amount of stuff I haven’t yet sorted through in my room, to find the cable for downloading photos from my camera to my computer, so I can take some pictures at Jo and Matt’s wedding.
The good news is, I found the cable.
The bad news is, the camera is not where I thought it was. In fact, the camera does not appear to be...
Things that make me get much angrier than I should...
Shops selling “slim fit” clothes in fat people’s sizes.
I know I have some lumps and bumps and wobbly bits that I should probably do something about. In fact, most people looking at me will know that. So maybe I don’t want to do anything that will draw more attention to that fact - like, say, wearing clothes that will cling to every single lump and bump and accentuate it...
Things that make me get much angrier than I should...
Self-service checkouts in supermarkets.
They’re loud. They’re annoying (what if I don’t want to place the item in the bagging area? Why do you have to keep telling me in that tone of voice that suggests I am some kind of imbecile for not placing it there?). They really aren’t much quicker than regular checkouts, especially when something fails to scan properly and you have...

One of these days
I’ll leave the house on time. Just maybe not today.
Oh, not again...
95% of the time, what you’d like to see happening is happening. How come you only ever turn up during the other 5%?
So here's what I don't get
You have a football team. They’re going to a major tournament. They know they need to practise penalties in case of a penalty shoot-out.
So the outfield players need to be good at getting the ball past the goalkeeper, while the keeper needs to be good at stopping the ball from getting past him.
So they practise by having the players take penalties against the keeper. Which will result...
John, Paul, George and Kempo... yeah, that'd work
This morning I was playing Beatles Rockband on the Wii.
I now want a drumkit.
Or a Wii.
Or just to be one of the Beatles.

Very good... →
…especially the terrible pun in the last sentence. Thanks to my sis for spotting this :D
Two reasons for this link →
1) It’s an awesome tune, and
2) It’s a reminder of what a terrible state Britain ended up in last time the Tories were in charge. Maybe this time will be different… but I’m not too confident.
Right, enough politics for one night. Off to find a comedy photo instead.
The Election Section
So it’s been a couple of weeks since I posted anything here, and during that time there’s been some kind of vote thingie going on, apparently. Various thoughts:
It’s weird how, as a Christian, I can have an entirely different view on which party actually has the best track record, policies, attitude to social justice etc, to that of another Christian.
The leadership debates...

Ewwww *shiver*
Just stumbled across an election broadcast by the BNP. Nick Griffin is sitting in front of a picture of Winston Churchill.
If I was Churchill’s family, I’d sue for defamation of character.
Hello you
You are totally, ridiculously amazing.
That’s all.
Good feet go up to heaven; bad feet go down to hell.
– The physio reminder I’ve been given to remember which foot to place first on the stairs. Just not sure if it’s theologically correct…

So, just over two years ago, I sprained my ankle quite badly. It became very swollen and bruised (mainly because it happened on the way to work, and like a muppet I insisted on limping all the way to the office rather than going to the A&E department of the hospital that was just round the corner from where it happened - my bosses immediately packed me off to another A&E) and I spent a...

More often than not, it’s because they *are* morons. Hope that clears it up for you :)

There, I’ve blogged something now. Happy? :p

The end of an era
Six and a half years ago, I moved to Birmingham. I moved into a nice little house with my friend’s friend, my friend’s girlfriend and my friend’s former uni housemate.
Six and a half years later, I’m spending my final night in the house. I’m off to my mate Pete’s place, which is only round the corner (and across the road) from my current house, but it will be...
Come on Cambridge!!
Today is the Boat Race. Which, I have learned over many years, means absolutely nothing to anyone who hasn’t lived, worked or studied in Oxford or Cambridge.
Still, at least we make the final every year. Which is probably the only sporting triumph my birth city has ever achieved…
Facebook has a "like" button
and lots of people seem to think it should have a “dislike” button too, although that has the potential for abuse.
Personally, I’d like to see a “don’t care” button, for the times when people bang on about the same thing for weeks on end.
This has made my day →
Making the UK’s most loathesome “news”paper and the UK’s most loathesome political party both look stupid in one move. Gordon Pal, you are a legend.
